Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah Of Sokoto At 72

BISHOP MATTHEW HASSAN KUKAH IS 72 YEARS TODAY:

Today, August 31, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto diocese Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah marks his 72nd birthday.

 He was born in 1952 in a little village in the middle of nowhere in Southern Kaduna, as he himself fondly says. Sadly, Southern Kaduna today is not the symbol of the greatness that Kukah's international-wide accomplishments should have bestowed on it, but a vale of blood, toil and tears.

 Kukah has been widely described as "Nigeria spiritual guide and confessor on socio-political matters".

 Kukah means many things to many people, but two enduring qualities of the man is his deep love of God and his constant burning desire to put his gifts and talents at the service of bettering the human conditions of his people.

You cannot comfortably talk about the political and religious evolution of modern Nigeria and skip him out. What more can one wish for? What more can one pray for?
