Synodality, A Call To Walk Together
The 8th Oyo Diocesan Conference of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal is in progress at Igbeti, in Oyo State.
Speaking on Synodality in the life of the Church at the Conference, Fr. Martin Badejo commended the Renewal for the choice of the topic which he said was timely, coming as the Synod has just ended in Rome.
He observed that many members of the CCRN and Christians generally have taken more to supposed spirituality without ecclesiology. He said spirituality will have no foundation without the Church because the Church is the source of spirituality.
He explained that the Church and the life and mission of the Church is the life and mission of Jesus Christ in the world. He gave a rundown on the mission of Christ which he further said is the mission of the Church in the world.
Synodality, he said means walking or journeying together for the same purpose towards a particular goal or purpose. He stated that the Holy Father Pope Francis believes that synodality is what is needed to make the voices of those who ordinarily may not have been heard to be heard.
Fr. Badejo said synodality is meant to give everyone the opportunity to be heard. We are many and different and that everyone has something to say. He said it is unfortunate that most times, people listen in order to respond and not to learn. The proper thing he explained is that people should and must listen to one another to know what they say, why they say it and know how they feel.
He said: “We as a Church are full members of the Church and we share in the life and mission of the Church. Our participation in Church life and mission must be active. Challenge yourself to be active in the community of faith. Even in the little groups and societies in the Church, you are already in a community. So grow in it by being active and not laid back.”
In synodality, we must work together; everyone must play his part to further the mission of the Church. He regards it as co-responsibility in order for evangelization to grow.
