OUR CCRN TELEVISION AND ITS IMPORTANCE IN THIS ERA.
The Catholic Church has a strong interest and commitment to using social media, television, and other forms of mass communication for the purpose of evangelization and spreading the Gospel message. This is evident from the various teachings and directives from the Church's leadership over the past several decades.
The Church recognizes the immense potential of the media to reach vast numbers of people with the Good News of Jesus Christ. As Pope Paul VI stated, "it would be difficult to suggest that Christ's command was being obeyed unless all the opportunities offered by the modern media to extend to vast numbers of people the announcement of the Good News were being used." Pope John Paul II similarly called the media "the first Areopagus of the modern age," urging the Church to integrate the Christian message into the "new culture" created by modern communications.
The Church sees the media not merely as tools but as a "world" or "culture and civilization" that the Church must evangelize. This requires the Church to understand and engage with the media in creative and effective ways, using them to proclaim the Gospel, provide religious information and teaching, and foster a Christian spirit in society.
Pope Benedict XVI emphasized the importance of the internet and other new media, noting that "the face of Christ needs to be seen and his voice heard" in the virtual world, as it can create meaningful relationships and open doors to the Redeemer. The Church is called to have a "significant presence" in the media, with a "wider and more qualified commitment" from Catholics working in this field.
In summary, the Catholic Church views the media, including social media and television, as essential means for fulfilling its mission of evangelization in the modern world. The Church is committed to using these powerful tools to proclaim the Good News, deepen the faith of believers, and bring the transformative message of Christ to all people.
